Almas

by 220

Humanity is losing its essence to technology - the more we have it, the more we forget what is really important: the persons that use it.

Almas is a hypermedia digital art installation that uses the metaverse as a meeting point for persons around the world - unlike other similar spaces this one connects two physical venues (Salz21 and Mexico's National Arts Center) through "portals" that allow persons to take a glimpse into this digital world and its inhabitants and the other portals without the need for a computer.

Though it comprises many conceptual layers the main idea behind this art piece is to remind us that the most important aspect to technology are actually the persons that use it - we have been paying so much attention to technological development that we tend to forget that at the end every person has motivations, needs and desires that should be fulfilled with the use of technology, and not the other way around.

The concept for Almas (which means "Souls" in Spanish) was guided by the need to acknowledge digital worlds as part of our new realities, and appeals to the idea of striving into creating hyperhuman communities where the use of technology is common, placing humans above it, but never above the rest of nature.

Almas was presented during March 15th and 16th
during Salz21, and is currently closed

About the author

220 (E Castañeda) is a trans disciplinary creator and philosopher whose work identifies and explores humanity’s neurological potentials and vulnerabilities and uses them to create systems that improve our understanding of our influence into others and our surroundings, and how the world influences us back to create a distinct meta reality for every one of us.

His doing consists mostly of induced neurological experiences, organic data transduction, artificial cognition systems, electromagnetic exploration and algorithmic expressions which find their place into neuroware, digital environments, net.art, audiovisual performances, music/sound art, essays and stories.
